What Does it Mean to Follow Jesus?

We've all sinned.

We were all born with a sinful nature.  God has a standard of holiness that none of us is able to attain on our own.

In the Bible, James 2:10 says that even if we’ve been absolutely perfect our entire lives, but slipped up just once, we’re guilty of breaking God’s law.  That’s what has broken our relationship with God, and has destined us for eternal punishment in hell.  God doesn’t want anyone to be punished, because He’s loving and merciful.  But He’s also fair and just.  Because He is so full of justice, someone needed to pay for the wrongdoing - the sin - all of us has done.

Romans 3:23 -  "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God ... "

God loves us.

God sent His Son - Jesus - to take the punishment for the sins we've committed.

Jesus was a human, while at the same time being God.  He lived a perfect, sinless life, and is the only one who could take our place before God.  By placing our faith in Christ, we can receive God's forgiveness for our sin, and one day spend eternity with Him in Heaven.

But it's not a given.  We have to make a choice of our own free will to accept Jesus.

Accepting Jesus simply means praying to God, apologizing for our sin and asking God's forgiveness.

Romans 5:8 - " ... but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

Romans 10:9  - "...because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord

and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. "

If you've accepted Jesus ... Congratulations!

You're part of God's Family now!  We're celebrating with you!

Now that you've accepted Him, it's time to figure out how to follow Him.  We're a group of people that is also on the same journey of figuring out how to follow Jesus in our everyday lives.  We make lots of mistakes along the way, but we keep moving forward because of God's forgiveness.

Some of the ways we can learn more about following Jesus are by reading the Bible, spending time in prayer each day, joining a Bible study group, listening to sermons, worshiping God, and attending church each week to spend time with other Believers.

If you're still not sure about becoming a follower of Jesus ... that's okay!
