At Pinewoods Chapel, we believe that everyone who follows Jesus should be baptized.

Baptism is not required for salvation.

Baptism is a public declaration of your salvation - a visible display of your commitment to Christ, and of your faith in Him. It's a celebration!

WHAT IS BAPTISM?

Baptism is a public declaration of faith in Jesus.

Baptism is a symbolic representation of identifying with Jesus in His death (going under the water) and resurrection (coming out of the water).

Baptism is not what saves us from our sins. Baptism is simply a visible commitment to Christ, and signifies that we are ready to follow and obey Him.

WHAT DOES BAPTISM LOOK LIKE?

At Pinewoods Chapel, individuals stand in a 3-4 foot deep tank filled with water, along with the person who is baptising them.

After sharing their testimony (spiritual journey), they are baptised by lowering into the water and coming back up again.

WHY WOULD SOME WANT TO BE BAPTIZED?

  1. To follow the example of Christ.

  1. Jesus commanded his followers to be baptised.

  1. Every believer in the New Testament was baptised.

WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF BAPTISM?

  1. Baptism means to immerse or place under water.

  2. It identifies an individual with Christ’s death, burial and resurrection.

  3. It signifies new life in Christ.

  4. It demonstrates the belief of the individual being baptised.

Matthew 28:18-19, Romans 6:3-6, Acts 18:8

WHY DOESN’T PINEWOODS BAPTIZE BABIES?

We follow the Biblical example of Baptism.

In the New Testament era the Christian Gospel was preached by adults to adults. Those who heard, understood and believed it were baptized.

While many older children may understand what faith in Jesus means, babies and young children don’t have the same level of understanding.

In fact, there are no examples of babies or young children being baptized in the Bible.

If you were baptized as an infant, we encourage you to affirm your faith in Jesus by being baptized as an adult!

HOW OLD SHOULD A PERSON BE?

The conversion and baptism of children should reflect with what the Bible says regarding adults as nearly as possible:

Baptism should follow a clearly understood and

expressed faith in the Gospel.

If some time has passed between believing and baptism, the behaviour of the child should express some degree of agreement with their faith.

SHOULD I BE BAPTIZED?

⬜ I have recently come to personal faith in Christ and desire to be an obedient follower of His.

⬜ I have been a believer for some time and have never been baptized, but I am growing in the areas of prayer, reading scripture, spending time with other Believers, and sharing my faith with others.

If you said YES to either of these, baptism is for you!

I WOULD LIKE TO BE BAPTIZED. WHAT’S NEXT?
